Report of Reduce the Health Hazards of the Employees

Question: Identify three recommendations that Sopranos should implement to improve the safety culture within the organisation. These recommendations may incorporate multiple HRM functions, including performance management, rewards, training and development, recruitment and job design. For each recommendation, a clear explanation about how this will lead to improved safety behaviours should be provided. Answer: Introduction Soprano Smallgoods are involved in the production of meat products, the workers are exposed to different hazardous substances, and the work of theirs is quite risky. This report recommends different methods by which this company can reduce the health hazards of the employees. The auditor of the company has found different loopholes in the functioning of the company and those areas of loopholes will be looked at in this report. Safety of the employees is of prime concern in any factory and those need to be given prime importance. Recommendation 1 As per the Safety Act, it is a mandatory requirement for the owner of the factories to provide safety gears to all the employees who have to work with the machineries in hazardous conditions and it is the duty of the management to provide safety gears and tools to the workers (Harpur and James 2014). It will help the workers at times of any accidents and the workers will at least not lose their life or become handicap for the life. There are many instances where the workers have lost their life for not working safety requirements and at the same time, the safety requirements have saved the life of the workers. It is the duty of the management to adhere to the different safety regulations of the different Workplace Acts and regulations. The Acts and safety regulations provided by the Acts mandatorily discloses the use of such safety gears and at the same time recommends to implement and monitor the governance systems in order to improve the performance of the organizations. Moreover, communicating the safety rules and regulations among the different related groups is an important criterion of such Act. Moreover, the young children, that are children who are below the age of 18 years of age must not be allowed near the dangerous machineries (Hughes and Ferrett 2015). Recommendation 2 The second recommendation that will be made to the company is the improvement of the machineries and the putting focus on the designing and the engineering of the workplace architecture. The workplace must be designed in a way that there is enough space among the co-workers and the congestion is avoided. There must be a minimum gap of few meters among the workers as well as the machineries so that there must not arise an untoward incidence due to technical failures in the machineries. Moreover, there must be a hazard recognition and control and evaluation technique for the company, so that the company can take previous precaution and any untoward situation does not arise and the company will be able to handle the situation in better way (Chan-Mok et al 2014). The company must try to organize the communications of the company in a better way. This will help the company in assessing the risks that may arise due to the operational activities. On the other hand, the maintenance and up gradation of the machineries is an important tool for low rate of the accidents. The machineries must be operated under the supervision of the senior experts and the in house guidelines of operating the machineries must be strictly adhered to, so that the accidents are reduced largely (van Oyen et al 2015). Recommendation 3 The working hours, proper leaves and regular payment of wages is essential for reduction of the accidents. There is a psychological reasons regarding this particular factors as the workers are properly paid they will be more engaged to the work and automatically they will adhere to the rules and regulations of the factories. Moreover, this will help the factory in decreasing the number of accidents and raise the productivity of the organization. Productivity will help the company to be more competitive, thus escalating the profit of the firms (Harpur and James 2014). On the other hand, the company must attend the feedback session from the workers, so that the management has a fair share of idea of the grievances of the workers and the management can work upon the shortcomings and improve the performance. Healthy workplace environment will make a healthy production of the goods and affecting the factory positively. Moreover, the company must also implement the penalties to the workers so that they do not violate the rules of factories and the number of hazards decreases (Hughes and Ferrett 2015). Conclusion After analyzing the report, it can be concluded that Sopranos is lacking a vital workplace safety measures. Recommendations are provided in the assignment so that the company can improve the workplace environment and at the same time, the number of hazards decreases. These recommendations will help the company in improving the performance and the productivity of the company. Reference Chan-Mok, J.O., Caponecchia, C. and Winder, C., 2014.
